Course Description
In this course, the history of textiles, clothing, fashion and jewellery design is taught through the selected landmark archaeological finds, developments, technological inventions, movements, products, and social enterprises. Both those that have occurred in the past and ones continuing to occur in various domains of arts and crafts are explored. The course blends theory and practice and students are encouraged to reflect on how they can apply the knowledge of history to studio practice. They are taught to approach history by connecting it with the combined outcomes of the sociological, cultural, geographical, political, technological and commercial perspectives.
