CHALLENGES, ESL STUDENTS FACE IN ART EDUCATION WITHIN PAKISTAN; A CASE STUDY
This study highlights the language issues faced by ESL (English as second language) students, particularly those belonging to the field of Visual Arts, and having diverse linguistic backgrounds across Pakistan. The study focuses on learners for whom English is a second language, and who, in their early school life were not exposed to English as a medium of instruction. Such students face problems in higher education when communicating and learning in English language, both in its written and verbal form. The adversities they encounter due to deficient command over a particular language skill impacts them emotionally and academically as they deal with language barriers. The aim of this study is to highlight the challenges faced by students through creating a forum to ensure that their voices are heard, offer a communication portal for individuals with similar experiences (through a functional website design), facilitate an open public discussion to share stories of struggles and obstacles students face academically, and propose possible solutions to overcome learning barriers due to language limitation.
