Dissertation Abstract
Over the past two decades there has been a steady rise in locally produced comic books and graphic novels coming out of Pakistan. The purpose of the study is to analyze the works that are being produced in the country by borrowing theoretical frameworks from leading scholars of the medium from the global West. The research utilizes Document Analysis as its methodology alongside semi-structured interviews from the creators; publishers and educators who are part of the small but significant industry, in order to further understand the inspiration, process and future of these comics. Specifically in order to understand what role this medium might be able to play in image building, social advocacy and education within the country.
